Rutgers University–New Brunswick is a moderately difficult university to get into, with an acceptance rate of 66% in 2022. Rolling admissions

Rutgers University–New Brunswick offers rolling admissions for undergraduate applicants. For spring/January 2024 admissions, you may apply after October 1 to be considered for rolling admission on a space-available basis to any school that still appears as an available choice on the undergraduate application. For fall/September 2024 admissions, you may apply after the due dates have passed to be considered for rolling admission on a space-available basis to any school that still appears as an available choice on the undergraduate application. First-year student applications submitted after December 1 will receive a decision after early action and regular decision students have been notified.

Rolling admission typically ends when all spots are filled, usually around mid-March. While there is no hard deadline for rolling admissions, it is recommended that you apply by February 1. Applications are reviewed in the order they are received, and admission is highly selective.

Rutgers University makes decisions based on a holistic review of each applicant, with primary emphasis on the student's academic promise. Decisions are based on several factors, including completion of required high school subjects, academic performance, strength of the academic program, grades and grade trends, weighted grade-point averages, cumulative rank, and SAT and/or ACT scores.

Notification deadlines

The notification deadline will depend on the semester for which you are applying.

For Spring 2024, Rutgers University–New Brunswick will notify applicants of their admissions decisions via the Rutgers Application Portal no later than December 7.

For Fall 2024, Rutgers University–New Brunswick will notify early action applicants by January 31. Students deferred to regular decision will receive a notification by the end of February.

For Fall transfer students, the notification deadline is April 15.

Transfer applications

Transferring to Rutgers University-New Brunswick is considered moderately difficult. The transfer acceptance rate for the university is 55.2%, with 4206 students accepted out of 7619 transfer applicants in 2019.

The deadline for Fall transfer applications is February 1. For transfer students wishing to start in the fall, applicants should hear back by April 15.

For Spring transfer applications, the deadline is October 1. Applications submitted after October 1 will be considered under Rolling Admission on a space-available basis. Admissions notifications will be posted online via the Rutgers Application Portal no later than a specified date if the application is submitted by the due date. If admitted after the Candidate's Reply Date of December 7, applicants must respond within one week to enroll.

Rutgers University requires a number of documents for transfer applications, including:

• An essay or personal statement
• Standardized test scores
• A statement of good standing from the prior institution

Additionally, Rutgers University requires a minimum of 12 college credits completed after high school graduation. Transfer applicants who have completed less than 24 college credits are required to provide their high school transcript(s).

The Rutgers Business School-New Brunswick accepts school-to-school transfer applications for the fall semester only. Students must have attained a minimum of 24 Rutgers credits by the end of the spring semester to be eligible to apply for the subsequent fall semester. The application period is between February 1st and April 30th, and decisions will be sent out on June 30th.

Early action

Rutgers University–New Brunswick offers an early action application route for students who want to apply early to boost their chances of getting in. The early action deadline for fall 2024 is November 1. Applying early means your application is considered before all the regular decision applicants apply, and Rutgers University–New Brunswick early action decisions are non-binding.
