In the ninth season, Reddington and the Task Force discover new details regarding Elizabeth's death. Another main plotline involves the murder of Cooper's neighbour, for which Cooper, played by Harry Lennix, is framed by the detectives and blackmailed by the actual killer. Cooper initiates his own investigation to uncover the blackmailer, and both investigations intertwine in the search for the same mysterious common enemy.
Season 9 also marks the return of Mozhan Marnò as Samar Navabi, following her departure in season 6. Colby Lewis was promoted to a recurring role as Peter Simpson, and Genson Blimline departed the series near the end of the season as his character, Morgan, died offscreen.

The Blacklist's season 10 plot sees the culmination of Raymond "Red" Reddington's James Spader story, with the final two episodes serving as his swan song. Over ten seasons, Red has evaded capture, but now the walls are closing in.
Season 10 begins with Wujing, a Chinese assassin, on a revenge tour to expose Red's role as an FBI informant to other scorned members of The Blacklist. Red's former lawyer had revealed this role to Wujing in season 9, compromising the operation. Red and his Task Force now face familiar foes, including Dr. Perillos, The Freelancer, Robert Vesco, and the Troll Farmer.
In the middle of the season, we learn about Meera Malik's adoption and her mother's identity through Siya Malik, who grows close to Red as a result. We also see Red's relationship with Agnes Keen, Meera's daughter, who views him as a sweet grandfather.
The penultimate episode, "Arthur Hudson", sees Congressman Hudson order Red's former Task Force to bring in the man they had all grown to respect and even like. The Task Force is given an ultimatum: be disbanded and possibly charged, or hunt down Red. Red shuts down the Task Force himself to protect the agents, going on the run. Hudson and FBI Agent Nixon are eager to find him, and Red even blows up a plane to fake his death with the help of his former bodyguard, Dembe.
In the two-part finale, Red employs various tricks to evade capture, including arson, firetrucks, taxi cabs, boats, and small Spanish hideaway villages. He is eventually tracked to Spain, where the Task Force discovers the skull of Islero, a bull that killed a famed matador, is missing from his hideout. Red goes to Andalusia to bury the skull, where he encounters a large, angry bull. The series ends with Red's death, having never been captured.
