What You'll Learn
The 2024 Placencia Lobster Festival
About the Festival
The Placencia Lobster Festival is an annual celebration of the start of the lobster season in Belize. It is held in Placencia Village, a location you can drive to or catch a bus to if you don't like flying. The festival is organised by the Placencia BTIA and Placencia Village Council and has been a traditional mainstay of Placencia's economy since it began in 1998.
History
The Placencia Lobster Festival began in 1998 when the Placencia Chapter of the Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) wanted to create an event that would attract visitors to Placencia Village and improve the local economy. It was first held at the Placencia fishing harbour with just a single table, serving lobster bruschetta. The small gathering invited the public to play carnival games to raise funds for the Placencia Chapter of the BTIA. The humble event was successful, and it doubled in size in the following two years.
