Rutgers Field Hockey: Where To Watch

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights field hockey team plays its home games at the Bauer Track and Field/Field Hockey Complex on the university's Livingston Campus in Piscataway, New Jersey. Livingston Campus is one of the five smaller campuses that make up the Rutgers University–New Brunswick regional campus, the oldest of the university's four campuses in New Jersey.

The field hockey team's history

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights field hockey team has represented Rutgers University – New Brunswick, the university's main campus, since the establishment of the hockey program in 1974. The team competes in the Big Ten Conference in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Prior to this, they were a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) from 1988 to 1994, the original Big East Conference from 1995 to 2012, and the new Big East Conference in 2013.

The Rutgers field hockey team's home games take place at the Bauer Track and Field/Field Hockey Complex, located on the university's Livingston Campus in Piscataway, New Jersey. The team has played at this complex since 2009, with the inner oval adapted for field hockey in that year, including the installation of an AstroTurf 12 playing surface.

The Scarlet Knights have had notable successes in their history, appearing in the NCAA tournament twice, in 1984 and 1986, and playing a total of four games. In 1984, they defeated Penn State in the first round before losing to Temple in the quarterfinals. In 1986, they beat Pennsylvania in the opening round but were eliminated by North Carolina in the quarterfinals. The team has also finished as runner-up in regular-season conference play three times and has been the second-place finisher in a conference tournament twice.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights field hockey team is currently coached by Meredith Civico, and it continues to be a prominent part of the university's athletic programme.

The Bauer Track and Field/Field Hockey Complex

The Livingston Campus also houses many of the social science departments and the Rutgers Business School. The Rutgers Athletic Center (commonly known as "the RAC"), the student-founded Livingston Theater, and the Rutgers Ecological Preserve can also be found on the Livingston Campus.

Livingston Campus

The Livingston Student Center, which opened in 1986, is a popular gathering place for students. The centre was renovated and expanded in 2010 and now includes various retail food vendors and student organisations, such as 90.3 the Core RLC-WVPH and The Livingston Theatre Company. The campus also features two coffeehouses in the halls, a residence hall media and gaming centre, and a fountain area that is popular for outdoor activities during nice weather.

The Rutgers Business School, located along Rockafeller Road, serves as a landmark gateway to the Livingston Campus. The campus is also home to the Bauer Track and Field/Field Hockey Complex, where the Rutgers Scarlet Knights field hockey team plays its home games. The complex was originally designed for track and field but was adapted for field hockey in 2009 with the installation of an AstroTurf 12 playing surface. The complex is located adjacent to the Louis Brown Athletic Center, formerly known as the Rutgers Athletic Center, which is the home of the Rutgers men's and women's basketball teams.

Rutgers University's regional campuses

Rutgers University has three regional campuses in New Jersey: Rutgers–New Brunswick, Rutgers–Camden, and Rutgers–Newark. The New Brunswick Campus is the oldest and largest campus of the university, located in New Brunswick and Piscataway. It is composed of five smaller campuses: Busch, College Avenue, Cook, Douglass, and Livingston. The Rutgers–Camden Campus is located in the Cooper's Grant and Central Waterfront neighbourhoods of Camden. It consists of six undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools, including the Camden College of Arts and Sciences, University College, Graduate School, Rutgers School of Business, Rutgers School of Nursing, and the Camden location of the Rutgers Law School. The Rutgers–Newark Campus, originally the University of Newark, consists of eight schools, including the Newark College of Arts and Sciences, University College, School of Criminal Justice, Graduate School, School of Nursing, School of Public Affairs and Administration, Rutgers Business School, and the Rutgers Law School.

The Rutgers Athletic Center

The field hockey team of Rutgers University – New Brunswick, also known as the Scarlet Knights, plays its home games at the Bauer Track and Field/Field Hockey Complex. This complex is located on the university's Livingston Campus, adjacent to the Louis Brown Athletic Center (formerly the Rutgers Athletic Center). The complex was dedicated in April 1996 and was originally designed for track and field events. In 2009, the inner oval of the complex was adapted for field hockey, and AstroTurf 12 was installed as the playing surface.
