In 'Thor: Ragnarok', the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finds himself imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his hammer and forced to compete in a gladiatorial contest against his former ally, the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). Thor must win the duel and assemble a team—made up of the Hulk, Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), and Loki (Tom Hiddleston)—to escape the planet Sakaar and return home to Asgard to stop the villainous Hela (Cate Blanchett), the Goddess of Death, from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization in the impending Ragnarök.
Thor discovers that his father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins), is no longer on Asgard, having been exiled on Earth. In his absence, Loki poses as Odin and Hela, Odin's daughter, claims the Asgardian throne, killing anyone who opposes her.
Loki provides the group with the means to steal one of the Grandmaster's ships, and they escape through a wormhole to Asgard, where Hela's forces are attacking Heimdall and Asgard's citizens. Banner becomes the Hulk again, fighting Fenris, while Thor and Valkyrie battle Skurge and the resurrected warriors. Loki and the gladiators arrive to help, and the citizens escape on their large ship. Thor, facing Hela, loses an eye and then has a vision of Odin that helps him realize only Ragnarök can stop Hela.
