The plot

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again was released in Australia on 19 July 2018. The film is a jukebox musical romantic comedy and serves as both a sequel and prequel to the original 2008 film, Mamma Mia!

Plot

Five years after the events of Mamma Mia!, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is preparing for the grand reopening of the Hotel Bella Donna. She is pregnant and wants to learn more about her mother's past. In doing so, she discovers that she is more like her mother, Donna (Meryl Streep), than she previously thought.

The film flashes back to 1979, revealing Donna's youth and her first meetings with Sophie's three possible fathers. In the past, Donna is visited by Tanya and Rosie after Sam's departure. They cheer her up by performing "Mamma Mia". Bill returns to the island, and Donna joins him on his boat, much to the chagrin of Rosie, who had feelings for Bill. While they are gone, Sam returns, having ended his engagement for Donna, but is saddened to hear that she is with someone else. Donna discovers she is pregnant but has no idea which of her three recent lovers is the father. Bill's great-aunt Sofia overhears Donna's wish to stay on the island and offers her the abandoned farmhouse where she has been staying. Donna accepts and later gives birth to Sophie there.

In the present, Sophie tells Rosie and Tanya about her problems with Sky. Rosie explains how she and Bill broke up, singing "Angel Eyes". Meanwhile, Bill, Harry, and Sky return to the island to support Sophie.

The film also features Cher as Donna's mother and includes ABBA songs such as "Fernando", "When I Kissed the Teacher", and "I Wonder (Departure)".
