Plot of Avengers: Endgame
Avengers: Endgame is an American superhero film and the 22nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It was released in 2019 and is the sequel to Avengers: Infinity War. The film was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It features an ensemble cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.
In the film, the surviving members of the Avengers and their allies attempt to reverse Thanos's actions in Infinity War, which led to the eradication of half of all life in the universe. Thanos's plan involved collecting six powerful Infinity Stones: Mind, Power, Reality, Soul, Space, and Time. At the end of Infinity War, Iron Man and Nebula are left stranded on the planet Titan, where they failed to steal the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos.
In Endgame, Carol Danvers rescues Tony Stark and Nebula from deep space, and they reunite with the remaining Avengers on Earth. They locate Thanos on an uninhabited planet and plan to use the Infinity Stones to reverse his actions, but they discover that Thanos has already destroyed the stones to prevent further use. Enraged, Thor decapitates Thanos.
Five years later, in 2023, Scott Lang escapes from the Quantum Realm and reaches the Avengers Compound. He explains that he only experienced five hours while trapped inside. The Avengers theorize that the Quantum Realm allows time travel, so they ask Stark to help them retrieve the Infinity Stones from the past to reverse Thanos's actions in the present. Barton, Romanoff, Nebula, and Rhodes travel back to 2014 and acquire the Power and Soul Stones, but their actions inadvertently allow 2014-Thanos to learn of their plan.
In the present, the Avengers place the Infinity Stones into a gauntlet built by Stark, Banner, and Rocket. Banner, having the most resistance to the gamma radiation emitted by the gauntlet, wields it and reverses Thanos's disintegrations. However, 2014-Nebula, impersonating her future self, uses the time machine to transport 2014-Thanos and his warship to the present. Thanos overpowers the Avengers and seizes the gauntlet, intending to destroy and recreate the universe. A restored Stephen Strange arrives with other sorcerers, the restored Avengers and their allies, and they engage in a massive battle against Thanos's army. Danvers also arrives and destroys Thanos's warship, but Thanos overpowers her. Stark sacrifices himself by stealing the Infinity Stones and using them to disintegrate Thanos and his army. Following Stark's funeral, Thor joins the Guardians and appoints Valkyrie as the new ruler of New Asgard.
