School of Arts and Sciences students must get approval
Registration for the 2024 Summer Session at Rutgers New Brunswick is now open. Students who have enrolled at the School of Arts and Sciences must, however, seek approval from the Transfer Advising Office before taking a summer course.
The School of Arts and Sciences is the largest school within Rutgers University, offering more than 100 majors and minors to its students. The school combines excellence in teaching with world-class research, all in an atmosphere of rich cultural and academic diversity.
Students who have enrolled at the School of Arts and Sciences must email the Transfer Advising Office to discuss their plans and obtain approval before taking a summer course. This is a necessary step to ensure that students are on track with their degree requirements and that the summer courses they wish to take are eligible for transfer credits.
The Transfer Advising Office will provide guidance and help students make informed decisions about their summer course selections. They will also ensure that students are aware of any prerequisites or requirements needed to register for their chosen summer courses. It is important to note that the summer registration system does not monitor course prerequisites or time conflicts, so students must take responsibility for ensuring they meet all the necessary requirements.
Additionally, students are expected to pay for summer courses before they begin. This means that financial planning is an important consideration when registering for summer courses. Students should also be mindful of the credit limit, as they may not register for more than 12 credits in the summer, including total courses taken at Rutgers and elsewhere.

International students who wish to take courses at Rutgers University during the summer must meet certain eligibility requirements. These requirements include academic documentation, English proficiency, and financial documentation.
Academic Documentation
International students must submit official academic documentation, including transcripts and graduation certificates, from their previous institutions. English Proficiency Examination Requirements

Score reports must be from tests taken within the past two years and submitted directly by the testing service.
English proficiency requirements may be waived for students who have attended an English-medium school and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Students who have earned a grade of B or better in a college-level English Composition course at an accredited U.S. college are exempt from this requirement.

This includes submitting the International Student Financial Statement (ISFS) and accompanying financial documents, such as bank letters or statements, demonstrating that they or their sponsors have sufficient funds to cover the first year of their studies.
In addition to these requirements, international students must also be 18 years of age or older and have a valid passport valid for at least six months beyond their intended period of stay in the United States. They must also show proof of living expenses, health insurance coverage, and, if currently in the United States, their current immigration status.
