Shyne, born Jamal Michael Barrow, is a Belizean rapper-turned-politician. He is the Leader of the Opposition in the Belize House of Representatives and the leader of the Belize United Democratic Party. He is also the son of Belize's former Prime Minister, Dean Barrow, who was the country's first Black prime minister. Shyne's family

Shyne's parents were not married, and his father was in a relationship with another woman when he was born. Shyne reconnected with his estranged father upon his return to Belize in 2009.

Shyne's uncle, Michael Finnegan, is a long-time political colleague of his father. Finnegan is a founding member of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and has represented the Mesopotamia constituency, which includes Belize City, in the House of Representatives since 1993. Shyne's aunt, Denise "Sista B" Barrow, is also a member of the House of Representatives. Shyne's great-great-grandfather was a district commissioner of Belize, and his Jewish maternal grandmother emigrated from Ethiopia to Belize.

Shyne married a businesswoman named Catherine in 2017, and the couple had a daughter, Naomi, in 2018.

In 2020, Shyne was elected to the Belize House of Representatives as a member of the center-right Belize United Democratic Party. He continues to pursue his music career while also being active in politics.
